Letting agent possible asking for deposit back!

I've never been given a copy of a check out report, and I've never been asked to sign a check out inventory either, I don't think those are standard.sauceoclock wrote: »Upon checking out you should also have had a property inspection during which an inventory SHOULD have been signed, photographs taken and you get a copy.0 -
The problem is that if a tenant requests a check out report, the agent will probably want to charge for it (plus admin, plus VAT etc).sauceoclock wrote: »That's my point, they should have asked for it.... I've seen so many friends in both the LL and the tenant situation get stung because they haven't got copies of documents etc. Personally I signed all of my inventories, had photographs of all issues, everything was noted down even minor things like little dings in paintwork.
What proof does the tenant in this situation have that the stains weren't there when they left/they had the carpets cleaned? None because they've given it all to the LL and not got copies themselves!
I've always taken date and time stamped photos showing the condition of the flat when I move out, I don't know how well they would stand up as evidence in a deposit dispute though.0 -
You need to do the same when you move in as well.., I now know this and didn't when I moved into my property three years ago so no doubt this will bite me on the bottom later!0
