Can someone come off Carers Allowance and go onto PIP/ESA?

Another person I'm trying to help out..

They are an unmarried couple living together.

Person 1 claims ESA IR, DLA (mrc and lrm)
Person 2 claims CA and is named on the ESA claim form.

Person 2 gave up work a few years ago to look after/care for Person 1 (hence being in reciept of CA).

However, person 2 is now finding it hard to look after/care for person 1 as much due to back/spine/disc/nerve problems, so isn't doing as much "caring" as such, but still over the 35hrs.

Would they be able to put in a claim for PIP and/or ESA?

If so, would they still be able to claim CA? Or could they forefit this and let person 1 claim it?
Would ESA of person 1 be affected?

Never come across this one before.

Hi, Person 2 could claim PIP if he/she's under 65 and had the difficulties for more than 3 months and expect them to last longer than 9 months. Person 2 is already getting ESA because person 1 is claiming couples rate. Person 1 wouldn't be able to claim Carers Allowance for their self but if person 2 claimed PIP daily living part they would be able to claim Carers Allowance for each other. Claiming Carers Allowance could possibly affect any ESA that is claimed.
  • I started receiving PIP before my claim for carer's ended. Nobody claims carer's for caring for my father or myself and Dad now receives a premium on top of his pension and AA. Hope this helps.
