Possibly as records may not be perfect in all cases. However, the fact is that if they have records of an unpaid debt, they are allowed to use it against that.
Received six letters today off rbs natwest saying all payments are subject to clearance of any arreas they have identified I have arreas and the refund will remain with cms for processing for allocation irang them they have no rrcord of me advised to ring ppi team all my acs closed they have no ac nos and sort codes what does this mean another 28days they say to wait0 -
The front line staff may well not have access to old records and "closed" accounts, however the PPI team is probably setup to flag an alarm up for any customer who has previously had debt written off.
If someone doesn't pay off a debt and then tries to get money off the bank it is allowed by the FOS to offset some or all of the PPI win against the debts that were not paid even if the 6 year period has gone.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
