Candy washing machine fire!

Hello lovely people.
My fire alarm went off this morning due to smoke pouring from my WM, after switching off and opening the back I discovered the drum was now dripping blackened plastic and the belt had melted and was welded to the drum, as best as I can tell the belt has come off and heated up due to rubbing against the drum during a spin. I often use the WM over night to save money and dread to think what could have happened.
I rang Candy up and was told due to my year warranty ending in May and being unable to pay a repair scheme by direct debit my only option is to pay £190 for an engineer to look at it then also pay for parts and labour to have it fixed, I only paid £229 (on offer) for it new!
I don't know what to do, I have 3 kids one whom is disabled so cannot be without a WM yet I have no funds to replace or even fix it at such a high price. Surely Candy hold some responsibility for such a serious and dangerous malfunction. Any advice on what to do next or grant availability would be much appreciated thank you.

Speak to whoever sold the thing to you.

Are there any scratch and dent type shops where you live? Might save you a few quid. There is a place where I am and they sell white goods discounted but I'm not sure what the warranty is like on them. Sounds like a very scary thing to happen and reminds me of the tv advert which ran for a while telling you not to put your washing machine overnight incase of fire. Would your house insurance cover a replacement? Was anything else damaged like flooring?
