New car registration query

A couple of weeks ago i ordered a new car from a dealer. I was given a delivery estimate of early to mid December which i was happy with.

I have now been informed that due to a shortage of parts the delivery will be delayed to January at the earliest. My concern was that the new registrations are in march and that is getting close to that date. If it was late Jan i would prefer to wait until March.

The dealer said that as i had a part exchange it would effect the value of that and that waiting wouldnt really benefit me that much with the way the new registrations work.

So my questions are as follows:

Should i wait for March and get the new registration?
Does it matter any more in terms of value with regards to what reg a car has? It is still a "new" car after all

I can accept the p/x valuation change but it could only be a difference of 4 weeks between the pick up dates. If i was buying a car with a few weeks of the registration left id expect a big discount on that basis.

As this is my first ever new car im unsure on all this registration malarkey so appreciate any advice given.

How soon are you planning on selling the car? If you're going to want to be selling it in a year or three then holding off and having a 15 plate rather than a 64 could have some small benefit.
If you're planning on keeping the car much more than 3 years, I wouldn't worry about it.

As said, if you're keeping the car longer than a couple of years, it really makes no difference.
  • I would wait to get the new plate.

You'll be getting a 2015 registered car which will be a bit better for future values than a 2014 car.

There's a new registration "year" every six months. Holding on for a month and a bit or more is a bit melodramatic.

    Keeping up with the Jones'?
  • Just dont collect/pay for it until March, then it'll be reg'd as a 15 plate.
