Balance transfer from Amex to another cc?

in Credit cards
I have recently taken out the Amex Preferred Rewards Gold charge card and want to book a hotel on it and then transfer the balance to either Barclaycard, Halifax or MBNA credit card, depending on which one has the best offer.
1. Has anyone successfully completed a balance transfer from this type of Amex charge card before with any of the above companies? I have heard of there being problems due to the 15 numbers on the card as opposed to the 16 on most credit cards but reading around the internet most topics are years old.
2. Is it even possible to do balance transfers from this type of account/card (charge card as opposed to normal credit card)?
Thanks

Never tried to do it personally but from reading other stories it appear to be more of an issue of it being a chargecard than the 15 digit number issue.
If you get a super balance transfer card from MBNA which allows you to transfer the monies to your current account as step 1 then you will be able to do what you want.0 -
Are the points really worth more than the BT fee?0

No problems with transferring from mine or other people's Amex charge cards to 0% BT cards.
The points earned on the original spending are unimportant when considering a BT, you just need to make the fee back by putting the money in a savings account.
If you earned no points on a certain card, it would still be worthwhile transferring it to a 0% BT card if the fee was low enough.0 -
Unfortunately I don't currently have any super balance transfer offers from MBNA.
All 3 cards the fee for the BT is minimal due to promotional offers so that is neither here nor there. I just wanted to double check before spending nearly £2k which if I can't balance transfer out, I will have to use another card for and then use the Amex for everyday spending.

What cards specifically have you used?
