Hi all,
Finished our extension about a month ago and was signed off by building regs apparently. My question is how long does it take to get a certificate? just wondering who to chase up, Building control or the builder. Or is it too soon to chase either?
Thanks!

I'd expect it within a month of final inspection. Perhaps call building control. They'll be able to tell you what the situation is - if youcall the builder they'll only do the same!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

It's important but not critical, unless you are involved in a "move".
As above 4 weeks to 6 weeks, keep calling them tho'I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Hi all,

The "apparently" suggests OP was not present when the final inspection took place.
The Golden Rule for all home owners is to always be present when the Building Inspector undertakes an inspection. The home owner is paying for this service, and is responsible for calling out the inspector to make the inspection. Plus, if things are incorrect the home owner has to rectify the issues or face the prospect of being taken to court.
Would a home owner engage a solicitor and then not turn up at the meetings called by the solicitor? Of course not. Yet home owners adopt a different mindset with a Building Inspector.
One should meet the inspector, inspect the works, keep your builder on his toes, and ask questions such as "When will I receive my Completion Certificate?"0 -
He might be waiting for information/certificates from other trades eg electrician, plumber etc.
i would phone them and find out if he is waiting for some thing that you could chase.0 -
did you have an architect/technician doing the applications?
If they are down as agent the certificate would likely be sent to them...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
