Electricity recalculated
Options
I am ashamed to say that I have never checked my meter reading when I received a bill. I am now in arrears with EON. 3 months ago I went on to paperless bills and when they emailed me the first bill I checked my meter. They estimated that I should pay £352.00. I sent in my meter reading and they recalculated the bill which was then £257.00.
Is it possible I can go back a few years to have my bills recalculated? I'm sure I have been 'ripped off', but it's my own stupid fault. Thanks

Hi Janice. It doesn't work like that. A meter reading is a meter reading. Your bill was worked out an estimated reading: you have now provided the supplier with an accurate reading and they have recalculated your usage and bill. The fact that previous bills might have been estimated is irrelevant as the supplier will work back to the last true reading that it had on its system to calculate what you now owe which will take into account any previous under and overpayments. I hope that this makes sense? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi JaniceB
Hengus is spot on. Now we've an accurate reading, the account will have been billed up to date. We'll have gone back to the last actual reading so the revised balance will be based on the amount of energy used.
Talk to us if you're struggling with the arrears. We'll be happy to look at setting up a payment arrangement to spread the new balance over a more manageable period.
If you choose a Monthly Direct Debit, you'll also have a lower daily standing charge.
As you've registered with our website for paperless billing, you'll be able to use the Direct Debit Manager to keep an eye on the monthly payments.
Hope this helps JaniceB.
