Bosch Washer Dryer WVH28421GB fault

Our Bosch washer/dryer has developed a fault which means it keeps tripping the RCD switch on the fuse box. It's only 2 1/2 years old, was recommended by Which, and cost £750, so I'm not too happy!
It is this model:

It first happened last week during a long wash cycle, so we turned it off until we could speak to our electrician. He advised us to try it in a different socket, to see whether it was the socket or the machine itself. We tried this and it worked okay for a couple of wash cycles and one dry cycle, but it did the same thing again last night (on a long wash cycle).
Our electrician said it is likely to be a fault with the machine (he thinks there is probably a small leak or some damp which is getting onto an electrical part and tripping the RCD), so I called Bosch today. They gave me 2 options, either a 1 off payment or a yearly plan as follows:

If the parts and VAT cost more than £60, it looks like we are better getting the yearly plan, but what annoys me is that you have to set up the plan before the engineer comes, so you have no way of knowing what the costs of the parts will be. Also, the one off repair is guaranteed for a year anyway, so if the same thing went wrong again there wouldn't be an additional charge. I have had a look at the cost of the spare parts but they vary a lot (and there is 20% VAT to pay on top, according to the customer service lady):

I have heard bad things about these repair plans (not being worth the paper they are written on, and that they might exclude washer/dryers), but don't want to be stuck paying out for expensive parts. Also, I went with Bosch as this is the brand of the appliance, but am wondering if I should try to find a local washing machine engineer instead?
Does anyone have any advice/experience to share? Thanks.

Find a local independent repairer - they'll usually be cheaper than the manufacturer and possibly faster too.0
