Wifi Speed Test

If your wifi is slow run that test and put in your phone number and it will go to your Internet provider.I had a speed of 0.50 ,dial up was faster and Aol told me to run a speed test but had to be the above link one and add phone number. After doing that they could see what speed i was getting and adjusted some line settings but after a day i got the same low speed so ran it again and within 15 mins Aol called me again to sort it out again and now its fixed.
I should think it will work with all Internet providers but whether they will call you is another question

  • wifi? that test is checking the speed between your ISP and your router

how does that program send it to YOUR internet provider?

I thought AOL had long gone?

was the posting a copy/paste from a 20 yr old thread?

AOL BB is part of the TalkTalk group now...That speed test is just them using a basic internet speed test for their own use....anyone else putting a number in there won't get any joy.....
Much better using this - http://www.speedtest.net/ Although the speed tests should only be used to get an idea of your BB speed and not taken as an absolute...

the link is not to the AOL website , http://internet-speedtest.net/ probably just harvesting phone numbers?

    more accurate http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/button/141376316716099320208.png

and the OP says ".I had a speed of 0.50 ,dial up "

umm , I thought dial up had been stopped in the UK , AOL/talk talk do not support this? , hence the reason for asking if this was a 20 yr old quote from a forum on the web

Either way I'm not putting any of my numbers in because there is no need
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

    Proof i wasnt lying

    http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/general/4355394-ookla-speedtest-with-graphs.html

Talk talk took over AOL service but i am still with AOL but i am now under Talk Talk and when Aol call me they always say its the Talk Talk technical adviser.I was getting 0.5 and it was as bad as Dial up used to be.I am now getting 5 mpbs and thats good for me as i am in a village.

I really wouldnt put spam on here at all.And sorry you thought i was but i can see why you did as putting in the phone number in the speed tester but it then goes straight to AOL/Talk Talk and i had to do it 3 times.

Nobody thought you where lying just misinformed .
As the test does not measure your wifi but your line speed .Doubt if it actually goes to your IP either .

This tester is just a revamped speedtest.net anyway Ookla .

I had problems with my TalkTalk line, and they asked me to do this. As I had raised a problem, they did keep a record of my speeds. One Sunday I had speed problems again, which were very intermittent so very hard to prove, I called them, while also keeping recording numbers, every few minutes I might add, as it varied so much. I demanded to talk to a manager as it had been on going, and I got a very good guy, who was watching the speed reports while I talked to him, and he was able to witness it fluctuating speeds, from none to good. The problem got fixed - how I have no idea - but if you are in the middle of a problem, they can see these.

This tester is just a revamped speedtest.net anyway Ookla .

Thanks for saying that donny gal .I dont know why people were saying it was harvesting spam.I do use the normal Ookla speed test but he told me to use the other one so he could see what the speed was and like you said he saw it straight away.Anyone could call AOL/Talk Talk and say their speed is low when it is not so that link i put here shows THEM what your speed is as well.

One of the points that was being made though is that the test is nothing to do with your wifi speed; as stated in post #2 it's a type of test of your internet speed between your router and the exchange/your ISP. If you want to check your wifi speed you should be able to get that from your router stats, and it's often better to do an internet speed check through a wired connection as it eliminates any potential wifi issues from the equation.
