wet wall-?cause

Our garage's brick pillar is wet(slowly moving downwards).
We have a bathroom above it.
we had a plumber open up the ceiling around the pillar as well as floor of the bathroom upstairs. There is one hot and a cold pipe and a drainage pipe at the top of the pillar-but in spite of looking for over 3 hours-no leak was found at all.but bricks and wood around is wet!!
He now thinks that it is from faulty guttering from upstairs roof-with water possibly seeping underneath "tudor style" timber into the wall below.
I am not convinced as the upstairs wall is completely dry,and also external wall of garage is dry as well. It is only internal wall(brick pillar) which is wet.He says it is because the external wall drys up whereas internal wall don't !!
Any ideas?
As I don't want to spend more money on a repair work which may not be needed,as I already have spent a bit on looking for leak and repairing it back

What is the roof made of ? Is it a flat roof ?
Very difficult to answer on an internet forum. I think you need to make an inspection the next time there is a heavy rain and try to see what is happening. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
