Stripping Varnish

Hi, I have a stained/varnished front door step which has deteriorated badly - it needs stripping and redoing. It's actually the whole surface of the entrance porch about 3'x2'.
I was about to buy the 'old faithful' Nitromors, but having read most of the reviews on Amazon it's clear that thanks to the H&S brigade it's not what it was.
Can somebody recommend an alternative that will actually work please?

Nitromors was not that good the last time I used it. Leaves a mess.
Barretine Paint Panther is apparently pretty good, but as you won't get it locally, you would have to buy online. But I think many of the varnish removers are now pretty similar, as they have to be eco friendly.The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
I gave up with the chemical strippers when trying to remove the lacquer from the wooden trim on an old car interior. They didn't get it off.
I borrowed a hot air gun which removed it very quickly.Forgotten but not gone.0
