Heel Has Come Off Shoe 2 Months After Purchase....

Hi all.

I have a quick question for you guys and was hoping someone might be able to help.

I got some shoes from Debenhams 2 months ago. I've been wearing them about 3 x a week for work. The other day, one of the heels came off. I know I could get it re-heeled but if the other heel comes off as well, then I would rather just buy some new ones instead of waste money.

Do I just take it on the chin and buy another pair or do I have some kind of rights as in not fit for purpose?

The shoes cost £45 and were brand new. I've still got the receipt and I paid with a credit card. I have only worn them to go to work, come home and for my office based job. I've not been tap dancing or running in them, and I can't say I have walked much in them either.

I have no idea what the shelf life of normal shoes are, but I was hoping they would have lasted more than 2 months. :(:(:(

Thanks to anyone who might be able to help.

  • As they are under 6 months old then it would be up to the retailer to prove you have miss used them/ it isnt acceptable wear and tear rather than you having to prove they are faulty.

It is however their decision on if to repair, replace or refund. Even if they choose refund they can deduct the use already received from the items from it if they wish.

Whilst high heals are slightly different I have really found that investing in well made shoes, and I dont mean fashion brands, is a worthwhile exercise. I have 4 pairs of "work shoes" and the newest are about 4 years old. They've each been resoled once or twice but other than that they look almost new - indeed a colleague commented on my "new shoes" the other day and were surprised they were almost 6 years old.
