How do I do System Restore

I think I want to do a system restore and I'll tell you why.
Until a few days ago, everything was running fine but I noticed when using Apache Open Office, that it wasn't showing up spelling errors and despite trying, I couldn't get it to work, so googled for a free office suite. I selected one (forgotten name) but when installing, I omitted to noticed the "ticked" items and I got saddled with a change of home page from google to yahoo and a few other things which took quite a time to remove. In fact I'm sure one pop-up said things had been hidden. Anyway, with everything as I intended, I removed Apache Open Office and installed Libre.
Today, I've noticed my laptop has been acting strange, so much so that I'm paranoid and think something has installed itself.
So, rather than search, (the paid for version of Avast says everything fine), I want to do the System Restore. How is this done please?

Depends what operating system you're using. I use Windows 7 and what I do is I go to the Start menu and in the command prompt type "system restore". This will bring up the required option. You can then restore to the required point.
If you're not using Windows 7 you can easily google the answer. Or tell us what OS you are using and wait for a response I guess.0 -
Guilty of giving half a story, but I've done it.
I am using vista and google the question and sorted it. After, my avast stopped protection,, but that's sorted now.
The restore removed Libre, but before that, via Accessories>notepad, I think that will do want I want, rather than have anything else as I only tend to write letters for proof reading prior to using. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hi,
did you check Open Office Tools, to see if spelling and grammar were ticked?0 -

Hi again Frugal, yes I did and it was. After googling, I read that this is not an uncommon thing.
Even though I thought everything was fine, long after I'd closed down, or thought I had, the screen was still showing "closing down" so I had to do a long press on the start-up button and I've only come back again, to ensure that I wasn't greeted with the screen saying "because I had not clsed down properly etc", but it started ok.
But, I have gained an extra home screen icon, it's the Avast Safezone browsing icon. Not seen that before. Had a look via it, but with their ad top and bottom, make it look cinemascope, so might not use it.
Ps
Had to long press again. What's that all aboutThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
