Making an offer for the house I'm renting

Hi,

I recently had a 'provisional mortgage' and have been searching a place to buy - first time buyer with very limited deposit.

One feasible option is making an offer to the house I am currently renting through the agency. I have the contact details of the landlord.

But I am not sure how to approach, I don't even know if contacting them directly is an appropriate thing to do. Please let me know what you think or if you have similar experience.

thanks in advance.

Well I wouldn't make any offer until I established that the LL wanted to sell it.

I don't see any problem in either asking him or the letting agent.

    Good luck.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

When we rented and fell in love with the house we telephoned the landlord and asked if he would consider selling it to us. Fortunately he said yes.

A couple of things I would suggest you do first.

Do your homework and find out how much the house might be worth. We used zoopla (which can be way out), looked on Rightmove for similar properties and visited a few.

If the LL is open to the suggestion then you can agree with him to let a few estate agents come round to give a valuation.

The other thing is don't think that the LL won't have to pay estate agent fees. Many LAs write a clause in their contracts which state that if the LL sells to a current tenant then the LA has to pay ?%.

Thanks a lot for the replies.

McNeff - I agree. I will approach them to see if they intend to sell.

pmlindyloo - do you have any links explaining how to find the value of a house? I checked zoopla and seems like it's sold 2 years ago for £142K. My current rent is £750...
It's actually good to find the value of the house even before approaching them as I may not be able to afford it :S

Thanks again for the tips! They will be very useful...
