Asbestos Garage Roof Sample?

The garage was built in 1979, however its had alterations since then. The roof has been replaced as the height of the roof has been raised, as there is different brickwork above head height.
As the roof is Concrete Asbestos looking, however we cant be certain and want to change the roof as its leaking.
There are 16 panels on the roof, and we were going to have the roof sampled. Its £18 per sample. Testing will test a sample to see if it has, or has no asbestos. A certificate will be provided.
The question is..
How many samples should I have done? Do I need to test every panel, or assume that because they all look the same, and the same design etc then they would have all been fitted at the same time.
Of course, if its positive...then you would take them at worst case and bag them all as asbestos.
As asbestos was stopped being used in the 1970's, there is little chance that they are, however its best to play safe and if I skip them, the skip company will want proof...
Any ideas?

This is not really answering your question. But this has been raised before by someone and they found out that their local council would take asbestos materials from a householder doing works to their own home. They made a presumption it was asbestos, bagged it up and took down to the council refuse site, where they had a specific skip for asbestos waste. The refuse site checked the council bill and identity before taking the waste.
Just something to look into before you go the expense of getting tests done and if positive then paying for disposal. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

You really are being naive. Asbestos was still used in a number of building products right up to the mid 1990s.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -

The local tip to us does not take asbestos. The nearest is 47miles away, and takes 4 panels a year.
So for us, a test & a skip is the cheapest option. Its just a question of how many samples are required?0
