Barclays Additions Claim

Hi

I wonder if anyone can give me some advise. My father has gone through the process of claiming back the charges from the miss selling of the Barclays Additions for both him and my mother.

He sent off the letter, which he downloaded from here and received a form within a few weeks to complete and return (standard process). Obviously completed that and returned it. Anyway to cut a long story short he received a phone call from a member of staff the other day to ask him some questions. When he was asked "did you receive any paperwork from us when you took out the account?" he answered "i might of but i know i wouldn't have read it." There was also another question/answer that basically contradicts what he put on the form.

He has since received a letter from barclays telling him that because of the discrepancies they are not upholding his complaint.

Now i fully understand the reasons why they have come to their decision, however i am wondering if anyone can give some advice on whether it is possible to turn this around back in his favor, because i think he just kind of said what he thought was right without realising what might happen.

I know that he wont even remember if he received anything as he has been a barclays customer for over 25 yrs and had numerous loans and cards with them.

What also makes matters worse is my wife claimed hers, followed the same process and her phone call was only to tell her that her complaint was being upheld, no other questions were asked. so there seems to be differences between individuals.

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

  • The best thing to do now is escalate it to FOS, also ask for a recording of the call and compare the questions asked with those on the form that your father completed to see if the complaint handler has tried to mislead him during the call.
  • Hi, thanks for the advise. i will give that a go and see what happens
