Dongle up a tree

Options
Now don't laugh but my only internet access is via a 3 3G dongle hoisted up a tree in the garden at the end of a boosted 10m USB cable. This works fine but I have to sit in the garden shed and well winter is in it's way.
I would like to extend the internet into the house via powerline adapters and have bought an ASUS DSL-N12U modem router with USB
3G facility. I Plugged my dongle in via the cable, but, I can't make it connect. The settings I am entering are Three (UK) my dongle model and leaving the user and password blank.

Anyone have any suggestions please other than move?

You may be better sending that back and getting a MiFi directly from Three that way you can just shove it somewhere and use wifi instead

Well I do have another use for it at another location next year but if I plug the cable into a MIfi in the garden shed what sort of range does it have, or is there also a cable outlet?

It's now coming up with the error message that I need to enter my PIN number, where is that, I just put a PAYG sim card in the dongle and off I go.

The PIN will be on the Card on which the SIM was supplied if their is one.

    Video guide

Which APN and Dial no. is showing?

MiFi can be connected to a PC/Laptop via USB, as well as Wirelessly.
Some also have connections for an aerial/antenna.

Thanks for that Nifty, however I'm not sure if Mifi would help me. I would still need to hoist it up the tree to get a signal and supply power to it, what sort of distance do they work over? I'm reading that active (boosted) USB cables can be linked up to 80m (only need about 40m) so I'm wondering if this would be the easiest way.

Was just for info, as I suggested, you can also connect an antenna if necessary.
I use mine when on holiday. I place my standard MiFi(ZTE MF60)
at the front of the apartment. I get a WiiFi signal throughout the apartment, whilst the girlfriend can use it whilst lying at the poolside, perhaps twenty metres away.

My spare Huawei E5332 has a TS-09 connector. So you can attach an antenna with a low loss cable perhaps.

You can power it from the mains, via USB or just by battery. I keep a spare battery as it only cost around £3 or less.

The MiFi can be placed within the home. The antenna/Booster should be placed for the best signal. Then just connect the two together.

I have a narrowboat and a lot of boaters use 3G dongles and many of them have antenna mounted on poles to get a better signal, a steel boat makes a fantastic Faraday cage.

Why not get a decent antenna and run the cable to the house and then plug the dongle in. You might find that with an antenna you can mount it on the house and get a signal without tree climbing.

    PROBLEM SORTED

I just got a VERY long boosted USB cable that JUST reaches the house and brought the dongle a little nearer hoisting it up on every tent pole I have ever owned - might be a danger to low flying aircraft but works a treat.

Thanks to all for advice which I will re-read and digest at length.
