Credit card query

Hi guys
Took out a cc at the start of the year, and have had a few fees for late payment.Which I immediately paid as soon as I knew about. Thought i was just getting my dates mixed up with my various bills etc but in one of my most recent statements, they wrote this-
"There was an error in the information included with your card.
We should have told you that your monthly payments are due by the date detailed in your statement. This date is at least 26 days after
the statement date. Don't worry, the payment due date on your statement is correct. We're sorry for
our mistake. Please call us if you have any questions."
Does anyone know where I stand? I just phoned them and they said they hadn't made an error. But this seems to say they did and they've admitted it. I've asked for the form they sent me originally, as I think they've given me the wrong time frames. Cheers guys:)

Seems to me that they're saying the dates were always correct on your statements, but they're just admitting that they should have told you that you had to pay X amount by that date, I'm guessing they think that wasn't made clear.
I doubt you'll get much out of them, and it's probably not even worth the effort. Set up a direct debit to pay at least the minimum each month, then you'll never miss a payment.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

Check your old statements, is it clear there is a "Payment due by XX/XX/XX" ?Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Yes there is clear date saying when payment is due.
I had no real cause to view these statements however as my dd was set up to collect the full amount every month. It's probably a lost cause however I'm going to push it as I think a mistake like that should have warranted a separate letter to inform me? Especially if they've only highlighted this a couple of times after I've incurred a fee? I mean if they hadn't made me aware that the date the monies were due was to be found on the statement then how was I to know?
Btw thanks for the quick response guys!0 -
If you have a D/D properly set up to collect the whole bill there should have been no fees or charges unless you have withdrawn cash or used gambling sites.0

Hi
The fees were late payment fees which were a result of me not thinking the payment was due until days after they had tried to collect it.0 -

Don't bother trying to chase it up, you won't get anything out of it.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

Cheers guys.
I'm probably gonna still follow it up because I'm stubborn, but also from looking at the wording of the paragraph it clearly looks like they have made an error. It doesn't say "we weren't clear" or "we can see how you misinterpreted" it says they've made a mistake. Something must have prompted them to put it it in their, either an audit of the paperwork or another complaint that was succesful.
The end line saying "don't worry" etc seems like a pre emptive way of weaselling out of it.
thanks again.:)0 -
Stubborn or not (I can think of another S word to use)you are wasting your time.
If the statement stated that £x amount will be debited on y date and you did not have sufficient funds to pay it is 100% your fault.
Will you also be chasing your bank up for returned D/D fees too?0 -
No I prob wouldn't.
unless they told me in writing when I set it up the date they were going to take the DD was the 1st.
But what they actually meant was the 7th and they had made a mistake.
Then I would complain it wasn't my fault and chase them.0 -

Seriously, regardless of if your stubborn or not, you're going to be wasting your own time and just annoying the people who work in the call centres.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you.
