Hi,
I would like to buy a refurbished desk/lap top. As normal my search online has confused me totally! Maybe one of you can point me in the right direction please?
From reading here the celery (celeron) is not the way to go, unless I have got this wrong?
It will need to be wi fi and used for compiling estimates/invoices,surfing,email,skype and maybe playing the odd free game of football/golf etc. Windows 7 prefered.
I already have screen, keyboard and mouse.
Ball park budget £250...am I asking to much!
Many thanks

look at morgan computers http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/c/407/Desktop-Tower-PCs-Systems/
if you are getting a desktop , most wont have wi fi , sutable plug in dongles from £5 on ebay0 -
I'm never really sure what refurbished means with regard to a computer, as the main components are sealed units which cannot be refurbished.
Therefore, at best, it means any dust has been vacuumed out and it's been given a quick wipe with a cloth.
And presumably it's got a fresh OS install.
As far as a spec goes, I'd recommend an i3 or i5 processor, 4 GB RAM, and a 500 GB hard disk.
Mention of gaming does open up a bit of a can of worms though, as real-time 3D can require a decent graphics processor.
This one on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-OptiPlex-7010-USFF-Desktop-Intel-Core-i3-3220-3-30ghz-4GB-300GB-DVD-Win7-/261627961056?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopPCs&hash=item3cea3ddee0 is a nice little unit, though its hard disk is smaller than I've suggested. This is another of the same http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Optiplex-7010-USFF-PC-Intel-Core-i3-2120-3-30Ghz-4Gb-Ram-250GB-Win-7-/331347871812?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopPCs&hash=item4d25df4844.0 -
I would choose a more modern machine with Windows 8 onwards, back up Windows 8 Activation and then install Windows 7 to it.
Example: MEDION AKOYA E4066 D UK £249.990 -

Thanks Nifty, but how do I back up Windows 8 Activation and then install Windows 7 to it. Remember I am not too savvy with the technicals0 -

I would explain when the time comes. The Medion is usually supplied with a Windows 8 disc anyway. So perhaps no need to back up activation. No harm in doing it anyway.
In addition, Medion supply Drivers for Windows 7 for that machine.
Just an option.
DELL Outlet Business also have i3 machines with 8.1 Pro(has downgrade rights to Windows 7), but they are over-budget at around £290. Though they have a 3 year warranty.0
