Replacement conservatory roof?

My ex has a south facing conservatory which gets very hot. Is it possible to replace the existing polycarbonate roof with something opaque that will stop it getting quite so hot? It would have to be something that would comply with it being a conservatory rather than an extension and preferably not involve building regs. And if such a thing exists what sort of ball park figure would it cost ( in London).

A quick, cheap solution would be to try emulsion paint on the underside - try hi opacity trade paint. If you get damp or condensation issues avoid vinyl silk emulsion.
  • I have a south facing double glazed glass roof with solar foil on it and roof blinds, and it's still like an oven on a hot day :(
