Fur ball remedy

Does anyone have any fur ball remedies that work?

We try and brush all three cats but there is only one that actually enjoys it, the second will tolerate it for a little while and the third does a runner when he sees it. One of them (not sure which) has brought up a fur ball this morning and I found Misty looking like she was trying to bring one up.

Also is the furminator any good. I have a zoom groom which is brilliant but thought maybes a furminator would be good for the two less keen on getting brushed.

TIA

Many years ago I had a cat who would bring up the occasional fur ball. I remember getting something called Kittymalt, it was in a tube and he loved it, used to lick it from the tube.

Worth a Google to see if it's still available, or other fur ball paste.

    I'm assuming they're indoor cats?

Get them a tray of kitty grass, they'll eat that to help them bring up fur balls more easily.

  • I deliberated for ages before buying a furminator because they're quite pricy for a glorified cat brush, but bought one in the end and am so glad I did. It's unbelievable the amount of loose fur they brush out! I used to brush my cat daily when he was going through shedding spells but now furminate him once a week maximum. He doesn't love being brushed but will tolerate it for a few minutes which was never long enough with a comb, but plenty with the furminator.
I haven't used a zoom groom though so don't know how they would compare.
  • I'd forgot about cat grass, I used to grow it until Gizmo joined us, he kept decimating the plant so I stopped growing it since we'd never had a problem with fur balls.

I'm placing an order with zooplus so will add some cat grass, malt paste and a furminator.

    Thanks for the replies

My cat started bringing up furballs, I changed her food, she now eats Purina One dry food Hairball control (its now the only food she will eat) and she hasn't had any problems since. I also believe there is a paste they can have (from the vets)
