Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October - what small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

There doesn't seem to be a thread, so I thought I would start one

So far today I have:
Made a cake
(Nigel Slater's marmalade cake - love Nigel
Made damson vodka (Hugh FW this time, like him as well)
(these two things fell off my list yesterday
)
Then DD appeared with her little one, and nothing further was done :rotfl:
So, prawn wraps for earlyish supper then I am going babysitting for the evening.
Might try a bit of that cake now with a cuppa, just to check that it is ok

Hello Dawn
Your day sounds nice. Enjoy the cake.
Today I have put the washing on the heated airer.
Remembered to get the chicken out of the freezer ready for Sunday's dinner.
Organised a grocery delivery to come on the 29th October. We will have to muddle along until then:eek:
I will make something to have with our cups of tea, no sugar or eggs in the house, but do have sultanas for sweetness.
Have a nice evening all.

Hi Dawn
Nice one, I have popped over a few times today but haven't been able to start a thread on my mobile.
Today has been a busy day for us as Saturdays usually are. Made sure we packed food to take to dance class with us to avoid the cafe at the dance school.
Making a cake shortly with my son so that's this weekend's sweet treat taken care of.
Enjoying a library book Young Mandela which is all about Nelson Mandela as a man rather than a historical figure. It's quite juicy in places, filling you in on all the family stuff. Recommend it.
Passed on a music cd with children's songs on it to a little boy whose birthday it was last week. My son didn't want it any more but it looked new.
Will be making an apple crumble at the same time as the cake.
I'm quite cross that the situation with trying to get in touch with the underwriter handling my case has been impossible this week. Sent him emails twice this week and he hasn't bothered to respond. It doesn't seem to bother these insurers that you pay the premiums but then get treated badly when it matters. Sigh.
Anyway!
Going to finish my cuppa & get on with things.

Hi Weekend Money Savers,
Had day out with picnic as planned per my post yesterday. All went according to plan except we couldn't find the flask lid or its cup. Spent half hour ripping the place apart, but no luck. Then I realised I had a NT coffee loyalty card which only needed 1 stamp, so we bought 1 coffee & got the 2nd one free.....not as money saving as a flask but a close second! Chap on the till got in a muddle & gave our loyalty card an extra stamp. Mr f kleptomania with paper napkins again!
Other little things:
*Got an email to say I've won £5 Amazon voucher for a little project I did on an online forum I'm on at the moment.
*Postman brought £10 John Lewis voucher from Ipsos mori surveys.
*Decent weather forecast tomorrow so am putting the washer on timer for a cheap overnight wash.
*Froze 3 portions of the soup I made yesterday.
*Mr f volunteered for shopping duty while I got the picnic ready & he got it all in for £8 under budget (we are Aldi converts for the bulk of our groceries, tho' we do shop around a fair bit & like to support our local market, butcher & deli).
Not a single pence will be spent tonight as we are staying in. Mr f is planning to make an epic cauliflower cheese & jackets & I'm thinking candles, film, sloe gin.....but no heating going on, of course!
Have a great night,

Evening all!
I did a couple of sensible things today. I needed a picture frame for a friend's birthday present, so I checked prices online and decided to walk to my local Asda instead of driving - killing two birds with one stone as I took my dog.
Unexpectedly got a couple of cheques refunding things (road tax and solicitor fees) - only £32 in total but I headed into meet my friend in town early so I could park somewhere for free and walk to the bank. That money can go in the savings pot when it clears.
And I defrosted some bread from the freezer and had lunch before I met my friend so wasn't tempted to eat out.
Now I'm about to watch Strictly, have just vacuumed and cleaned the bathroom so the pjs will be on soon! Have a good night everyone!0 -

Good Morning,
Today's small things I will do are:
Wash hubby's work clothes very soon on the quick cycle, this will give them time to dry in time by hanging up on the indoor airer.
Cook extra chicken when I am cooking today's dinner so that I have extras to use for tomorrow's dinner.
When oven is on, pop in some sultana scones to cook for this week's treats.
Carry on with crocheting squares for a blanket for our bed this winter.
Get loose change ready to deposit tomorrow in my bank account so I can afford a small grocery shop this Wednesday as running out of essentials.
Think this is enough for now.
Have a lovely day everyone.

Good morning, I am just back after a weeks holiday in North Yorkshire so time to get organised before I am due back at college & work tomorrow.
My list for today:
Check online banking
Do homework for tomorrow
Catch up with the laundry
Catch up with dd's ironing
Sort through dd's clothing cupboard
Submit s&s information
Sort through Mr T order, scan and put away
Sort bags and clothes for tomorrow
Decide on title for blog and set it up
That is everything that I need to get completed today.0 -
Morning Campers!
Only little things from me today, but am still posting to show I'm keeping the money-saving faith:
*Washed hair using the free shampoo & conditioner I was sent this week to test (full size bottles).
*Free fitness forking over & clearing one of my big garden borders.
*Got a loaf going in the breadmaker.
*Got home made chicken soup out of the freezer for packed lunch tomorrow. (mr f has recently bought one of those red plastic soup mugs for transporting soup to work & putting straight in microwave & it is apparently 'brilliant' so that's more soup for him then!)
*Plan a possible recipe - I'm thinking about entering a cookery competition. Prize is £50 of shopping vouchers & I'd like those.
*Got up to date with surveys.
*Cut home grown rocket & watercress for a salad tonight.
*Did laundry overnight on Economy 7.
*All blowing like mad out on the line. Decent morning forecast here for tomorrow so have set timer again for cheap overnight wash.
"Project prepare for Winter" jobs:
*Mend some tights! Boring but defo saves pence.
*Planted up 4 big tubs of Spring bulbs - Peachy/apricot coloured tulips & some purple alliums which a friend gave me. Should look pretty April/May. Used our home made compost & some recycled from grow bag. I usually find this is ok for bulbs if it doesn't get too soggy over winter. Tulip bulbs don't really 'do' soggy.......by the way, if anyone sees any tulippy bargains, they are still fine to plant in November.
*Sort through our photo files & select about 15 or 20 to make up a photo album as a Christmas gift for an elderly relative. Have already got a really nice album to re-gift as I've had it a long time & it never gets used, so time for a new home.
*Carry on knitting my socks. Am turning the heel today so that means I'm half way.
Hope you all see some of this gorgeous October sunshine today - I LOVE Autumn & am feeling very positive about money saving at the moment........just as well with mr f's job entering dodgy times again.
Bye,
f x
