buyer wants to return item- still waiting 4 weeks later

hi guys, just wanted some advice- I have 100% ebay feedback and sold a few dresses last month. One buyer came back and said that it wasn't as described which I apologised for, I do try and give an accurate description of items but didn't see this blemish. I offered a refund straight away, they just had to send it back to me. It's now been 4 weeks, i contacted the buyer twice, the first time she didn't respond, the 2nd time I asked was she now keeping the item. she said she was busy with work. I've responded to ask when I can expect it back as I would have anticipated having it back in my possession by now- she could have worn it for all I know!

I'm trying to do the right thing here but not had this type of situation before. Do I just play the waiting game and I'll be lucky to get it back by Christmas? As a seller I'm presuming there's nothing really I can do....

I'd leave off chasing for now.
The buyer may have decided that returning is too much hassle and they want to keep the item.
The ball is in their court.
  • Presumably, the buyer has paid for the item so you are not out of pocket.

If I were in your position, I'd not bother doing anything and just wait and see. But four weeks is ridiculous for not having returned an item and I would take it that they are keeping the item.

What do the EBay rules say? Normally you can return an item to a shop within 28 days.

    On what basis?

There are rules about returning faulty items, and there is no requirement to do so within 28 days if item was deemed faulty at point of sale.

Don't get muddled by a shops personal return policy for changes of mind.

When buyers want something, they expect instant delivery and the best packaging money can buy, when they return things they take ages, use the slowest service possible and use little or no packaging.
