The less energy you use the more you pay year on year

I can't be the only one to notice that as we become more energy efficient and/or use less energy due to warmer Winter's whilst bills may appear to go down in the short term, over time the energy companies find ways to keep their income level up.
So gone are the energy only tariffs which benefit the frugal or those away from home and in come the ever increasing Daily Standing Charge, e.g. Scottish Power 34p a day!
I wonder if using less energy actually costs us more over years as all the energy companies being monolithic organisations hell bent on making excessive profit increase prices in inverse proportion to the amount of energy used.
Use less, pay more:(

OFGEM has some responsibility for this as it states that all tariffs must have a daily standing charge - although this can be set at zero.

They still have their overheads to cover, regardless of how much electricity you consume, so yes, if we all use less fuel/water, the unit price has to go up.
I refuse to have a water meter on principle because all they do is increase the cost of supply, which we all pay for in the end.0 -
I have a deal with Ebico which has no standing charge. Ideal for me as I am a very low user.
I also have a water meter which has reduced my bill from 360 quid a year to 90 quid.0 -
It's GREEN TAX, the big con ever since the Rio Climate agreement of the '90s.
It is a transference of wealth from the poor to the rich through taxes and money making schemes, for those in charge and those administering the tax.
Don't be stupid enough to start wittering on about the Daily Mail, just have look at who produces the evidence.

I work outdoors and I can assure you the winters have`nt been at all warm except for last winter which was the mildest on record. The one before was exceptionally long and cold from end of November ( deep snow ) and a cold easterly air flow ( due to the jet stream position ) which lasted half way into April with temp hovering around 2c/3c for months. The previous 2 winters to that one were also humdingers. Do you live in Scilly/Cornwall ? I m up in Yorkshire, I expect the Scots got it a lot worse. Also I see Extra Energy are offering electricity at only 9.8 p a kwhr in my area, so in theory , with oil price per barrel of $80 we should be getting our energy cheaper. I m a low user and my prices have come down since 2 years ago0

11.614p / kwh here through Extra Energy. I moved suppliers last month and fixed a few % below last years prices, but I believe the energy companies are holding prices artificially high as Labour decided for some reason they would prevent the private companies increasing their prices if Labour came into power. Kind of backfired now hasn't it?!0 -

I do pay the standing charge from Scottish Power, which comes with lower unit rate, so I pay less as a high user. If I was a low user, I would be with some other provider. Simple maths.0 -
Why the talk of Extra Energy? Not relevant to the low users the thread is for. Their tariffs (like most suppliers') are fifty to seventy percent more expensive than the cheapest for the most affected.0
