Looks like Google are moving away from bargain basement prices for their hardware
I bought the original Nexus 7 as it looked like a bargain. I refrained from getting the upgraded 2013 version as it didn't seem worth shelling out another £200+ for the upgrade as the original was still giving me good service. I promised myself the next one. Looks like I'll be breaking that promise - The new Nexus 9 is quite likely worth the £319 for the 16GB version I see they are asking but it's too much for me to justify. I'm not 100% sure I'd like the 9" version anyway - I got my wife an iPad 1 and find it cumbersome to use.

Yeah I was surprised at the price, what with this and their new Nexus 6 phone it seems they're no longer going for value sectors but trying to compete with Apple and other high spec models from Samsung, HTC, LG etc.
I've got a 10" Samsung tablet and have to say it's too big for daily use in my case and almost too big to pack for travelling. I'd probably get a 7" next time but no doubt all phones will be 7" by then!

Isn't £319 the same price as for the Nexus 10 tablet, which the 9 replaces?0

At least its been confirmed your 2012 nexus 7 is getting Android Lollipop.0

Interesting to see that that's considered expensive for a decent large size slate. The Nexus 7 was £200, so £300 seems about right for the next size up?
I agree it doesn't have quite the same "bang for buck" must buy here and now feel to it but neither do I think it is a "premium" price. It's a great spec and still a load cheaper than the iPad mini which it is competing against. Add in Android 5.0 and it would be my preferred choice right now.
I know you can get cheaper tablets (and I have done!) but I have also regretted having substandard specs. An unresponsive tablet becomes tedious quickly and it can feel like you just threw a couple of hundred quid away. I can't see that I will regret my Nexus 9 pre-order... but I guess we'll wait and see!!
FYI you can keep track of Nexus prices and where it's in stock here:

The 2012 Nexus 7 was the first tablet I found to be usable. It's still usable but I would probably have upgraded if they'd left it at 7" and a similar price to the original but at the asking price I'll be sticking with what I've got for another year at least. Might need to fit a new battery by then I suppose as it gets daily use so a daily charge too.
I just think it's a shame that instead of competing with the Hudls of this world they've chosen to compete with higher priced tablets. I'll probably be sticking with my Nexus 4 phone too.0
