Why would someone 'be known' to social services?

I'm in the process of becoming a childminder and after chasing it up today they said that they're awaiting details from social services as apparently I'm 'known' to them and they need to find out why....? I've never had any dealings with them in my life so does anyone have any idea why I might be known to them??

im not sure, but i suppose there could be many reasons, it doesnt have to be bad. i know my name would be listed somewhere because as a child i had a social worker, perhaps its just something innocent, dont stress :)

 I have no idea why you'd be 'known' to them if you've had no dealings, looks like you'll have to wait and see what happens, maybe give them a call back and ask them to explain what's happening just to put your mind at rest!

    Good luck.

Maybe someone reported you for something you didn't do?. I hope you get it sorted out because it must be worrying you.

It could well be something as simple as having someone visit when you were younger. The reason for this could be as minor as a bump on the head.

or maybe your name is on their database as you are registering to be a childminder. you know what these places are like, left hand doesn't know what right hand is doing, i'm sure it's nothing serious.

Or it could be that someone with the same or similar name is known to them!
  • I'll never forget taking my daughter to the doctors one morning and having the riot act read to me because I'd taken her older sister into casualty the previous evening with a stab wound and then left before she was seen. Stab wound? Casualty? She'd been sat at home with me all evening.

It turned out that there is another girl in the district who is the same age as my daughter, has the same (uncommon) name, shares the same middle initial and is registered with the same surgery. We've made sure that there's a note put on the surgery files now, but it still manages to cause confusion. Every so often even the police will ring with an enquiry about her (we've not had them turn up on our doorstep yet) as well, but after my initial outrage at being virtually accused of child neglect, it's hard to feel any resentment towards the situation as the other girl doesn't seem to lead a very pleasant life at all, and I can't help just wishing for better for her whenever it all crops up again.

I think a lot of these 'thorough' checks are actually quite superficial. The various agencies do seem to have trouble communicating within their own ranks, never mind with each other. Good luck with the childminding - my sister is going to do this too, and I have unending admiration for anyone with the patience and stamina :)
Eek! Someone's stolen my signature!

Could you be related to a child or adult with a disability? If you are a carer your name will on the database somewhere.

I was 20 when she died... so wouldn't think it'd be that.
