A Strange Debt!!!!

My 20 year old son has just been sent a bill from Hampshire Football Association, a part debt, of £14 (this includes an admin fee), for unpaid fines accumulated by his team. The team has now folded. The club is well known locally, and has age groups all the way up from youngsters to men's league

My son played 3 games last season and then quit, due to work commitments. He has always paid any team subs & fines of his own, and had nothing outstanding when he left
The debt relates to other players not paying fines for bookings and sending's off
Until the bill is settled, the FA have suspended his registration with all teams he wishes to register with
Seems a tad unfair that they are not chasing the perpetrators, rather than lumping it together as a whole
Before I get started on the letter.........Thoughts please!!!!!

I have heard of this before and London FA have this on their site, no doubt others are the similar
Where a club/league has folded its qualifying debts may be apportioned against its registered members and officers, and action taken against them individually to recover the club’s debt.
Please note however The LFA cannot use the football debt recovery system in respect of any players under the age of 18.

To be honest for £14 I'd just pay it and not give myself a headache. It's not like it's £140 or £1400, it's the price of sacrificing three pints and a packet of crisps (depending on where you live).......

I know on principal he shouldn't have to pay it so perhaps give them a call/write to clear things up but don't let it drag on
  • would any court accept these as legitimate fines ? Tell them to do one

Without his registration he cannot play league football.
  • I see, well for 14 quid it's not worth the hassle. He might as well pay up.

£14? I wouldn't even log in to this forum for lunch money. Just pay it.

...the constructive point being he is 20. Tell him to sort it out himself. Its £14 for heaven’s sake, surely he can tell them to ram it or pay it himself?

    Really?

What if the fine was £1400 ? would your advice still stick ?

The easiest way out of this would be to pay it, but, it doesn't matter that its only fourteen quid, why should the lad have to pay a debt that's not his ?

Its nothing but a phishing exercise hoping someone will pay up, if you believe this to be unfair, tell them so.
