When do these get flagged up in the house using process. Just had searches back from solicitor. It's comments on an extension built etc, but no word of whether they had planning permission or not.

Usually, planning permissions are accessible on local authority web sites. You just need the postcode to start the search, which is typically done on a map.
Depends how far back you want/need to go. I have seen information from the 1980s included in some cases.
Different authorities organise the info in various ways. For example, where I used to look, permitted developments in the form of building regulations approvals were included and colour coded separately.0 -
Thanks. I want to see if planning permission was applied for and given regarding 2 extension on the house. Also whether building regs signed it off. It's about 20 years old so I'm guessing some sort of covenant document was also issued when the house was built. Nothing in searches. Will this be known from searches or will this come at a later date?0

The searches we got showed planning applications but nothing on building regs or permitted development.
Have a look at the local borough council's website and you will probably find there are listings for the address. My local council goes right back to the year dot (although before about 1995 there is little info online other than the basics - you have to go to the council offices to inspect older documents)
Alternatively you can find info in certain areas on planning website ... Will look it up and post for you in a mo!0 -
Can't find the nationwide one now but you can search for your local area info from this link

Some councils have online building control application registers which sound useful, but not in my area.0
