Kitchen floor or not?

To be honest laminate works okay in a kitchen as long as you don't spill buckets of water. The odd sauce spill won't cause damage. It's just a pain to clean because you can't use a mop.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Have you looked at Marmoleum?0

I have laminate from my living room through to the kitchen and after 16 years the living room is ready for replacement but the kitchen floor is as good as new and has had plenty of water on it, both for cleaning and accidental.
However, whatever you choose I would recommend having the same throughout if the space isn't large.0 -
Do you have underfloor heating?Free the dunston one next time too.0

In my last house i had a kitchen / diner and i put tiles in the kitchen side but bought kitchen carpet in the diner side. The shape of the room made it look right. But here i've got bamboo right through 'cos there is no obvious place to split it.
But if it were a lounge i'd always want carpet if it were possible, that's probably though 'cos i spend more time sitting on the floor than the furniture.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Hi All,
Thanks so much for your useful comments!! Really appreciate it. The general consensus seems that kitchen tiles are the best option. It will be included in my flat for free anyhow, so I must as well ask for them to do so! There won't be underfloor heating and its a 1st floor flat. Ive not heard of Marmoleum or Kardean but will look into it. Marble may be too expensive for me! Tiles throughout the living room space? Would that be too cold?0 -
Karndean or Marmoleum? Whats the pros and cons for these? i.e. noise, durability, price etc?0

Marmoleum is attractive, very hard wearing, waterproof and comfortable underfoot - it is also easy to clean. I have it in the utility and shower room.
I have cork tiles in the kitchen- they were laid many years ago and have proved durable and pleasing to the eye. They are also easy to clean.

This sort of room is my pet hate in conversions. You see loads of them in London unfortunately. Whack a load of kitchen units along one side of the living room and voila, a one bed magically becomes a 2 bed!
Nothing accompanies TV watching like the smell of poaching haddock and the sweet tones of the washing machine drum.0
