Tesco Hudl Fault- Statutory Rights

HI,
Quick question. My Daughter's HUDL has developed a couple of faults. Firstly the charger won't stay plugged in (cannot see any damage to the pins) and then yesterday the screen became unresponsive so it could not be unlocked. I have reset it following the HUDL instructions through the Tesco website but it has made no difference.
So I went to the store I bought it with the receipt to ask for a refund as my nieces also have HUDL's, bought about the same time, that are developing similar faults and I am not overly convinced by the quality of them. I was refused a refund and pointed to my receipt where I had to call a number and they are going to courier a replacement to me next Monday. The receipt states that calling this number does not affect my statutory rights. The HUDL was bought 24/04/14.
Am I able to go back to the store I purchased it from and insist on a refund or credit note instead of being forced to accept a replacement? Any help appreciated!
