It depends on who you are hiring.

A handyman will do them for £30 a door. The finish will be ok.

A timeserved carpenter will charge twice that but the finish will be to a much higher standard.

But very unlikely to be twice as good!
If the door fits/ works/ locks etc job done. Don't see the advantage of spending anything extra, its a door!

I don't agree. You may be right if its a £15 hollow panel door to be painted and any errors can be filled with caulking and filler. But if its a £150 oak door thats going to be waxed or stained, then you want a veryhigh dtandard of finish so that you don't see any chisel marks etc.

There is no point spending a lot of money on a door just to have it abused by a muppet with a blunt chisel.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

Well my 'muppet' must have been very lucky hanging my £130 doors, I can't see any chisel marks.
As I said in my opening post , I had the doors varnished, but still can't see a chisel mark.
  • Hmm. Pine, 4 panel, painted white ... Perhaps a well recommended handyman is better suited. I can't get my head round paying someone nigh on twice what they cost to hang them.
  • Thanks for the views everyone. Further searching turned up this ...

Oh, I cant post a link yet. Its the which local advice site. 2012

"Hang new doors – two-bed terraced houseHang eight new doors and plane to fit as required. Customer to provide doors.

    typical quote £310
    range £240-£480
    work 1–2 days"

Guess I'll find a few more then :)

hiya - i'm also on the outskirts of London (West) and paid a local carpenter £40 per door (including handles & latch). Happy to pass on his details if you're West too ?
