Hi all,

Bit of a strange one here. Long story short back in October/November 2011 I moved out of a flat leaving two flat mates behind (I left amicably). Before moving I took advice from Virgin Media on how to change the contract to another name, I followed and all was fine. Come March 2012 my housemates begin to not pay and as it transpires I was advised incorrectly of the process and it was still my name on the contract. I made formal complaints and requested they listen to the recording of that conversation. One adviser told me she had notes of that conversation taking place and what advice I was given and agreed it was wrong. I made further complaints but this information was soon ‘lost’ and soon they denied existence of said notes or even my conversation with the adviser who admitted they exist.

A month of too-ing and fro-ing and a few strongly worded letters from me and a couple of debt collector letters and it was at stalemate, I was refusing liability and that they would have to take me to court. The adviser I last spoke to said that they would not take any further action against me but it would be unlikely that id be able to use their services again.

I have heard nothing from them for over 2 years now, they have what was my temporary new address (parents, I have now moved back on but still get any letter sent here) and email for contact and I have checked my credit file monthly for anything untoward. No contact whatsoever until today, an email from equipmentreturns@virgin to my gmail asking for the box back and for me to reply with a new address if I have one.

I cant be sure but I’m not even sure I had my gmail account back then and even if I did I know I used my hotmail as his is what I use for bills etc. I’m not even sure if this email is genuine but if it is I’m not sure what to do. I certainly no longer have the equipment and I doubt either ex flat mate has it. I will try to get a copy of the email up later sans any personal data but any ideas on what is going on here?
