  • Gigabit ethernet is faster and more reliable, but that doesn't mean powerline adapters aren't good enough. The ones I had (admittidly they are a couple of years old now) were always very unreliable. As previously mentioned you can daisy chain switches, but you would really be better off just buying a 16 or 24 port switch to start with.

    I installed 14 ethernet ports back to a rack mounted patch panel at my wife's business and it probably took me around 2 days to do it, though there were a few challenges with that as several of the runs were 50m+ and had to go through several walls and although it's a tidy job, the cables are in trunking and I used wall mounted sockets rather than recessed. BT wanted to charge £99 per port!

    I bought all our stuff from screwfix (300m cable drum / wall mount ports) and 'aquired' a 19" patch panel elsewhere. I'd guess it cost around £250 though I already had the tools to do the job.
