Yorkshire Bank

I had a car loan in 1986 with Yorkshire bank with PPI (I don't have any details) I have wrote to YB they said they have no records so cant help me - is there any way of finding out my old account/loan details thanks

  • If you don't have the details, and they don't have the details, then no.

28 years is a little long to expect them to keep files on you.

Are you sure? PPI was a late 80s invention. I'm not even sure it was around in 1986.

Regardless, if neither you nor they have any record then there's nowhere to go really.

Do you have a current account with Yorkshire Bank? If so, there's a good chance that you'll be able to request bank statements going back many years using a SAR and asking for transaction histories. I've received all of mine from 1984 and they showed PPI charges on a loan from 1986 which has since, been refunded.

Unfortunately, if the account has been closed for more than six years all information relating to the loan will be deleted/destroyed.

What you need to find is evidence that a ppi policy existed and proof of payment, plus reasons why it was mis-sold e.g. single upfront premium for loans.

There was also only a banking ombudsman scheme toward the end of 1986 and I am not sure when Yorkshire Bank joined it.

If the sale of any PPI predates membership of the scheme FOS will have no jurisdiction.
