Rude to remove your post, resolved or not.Not sure if I'm in the right section....
Back in Aug. 2012, we left Virgin Media and switched to BT.
Virgin made several appointments to collect their equipment, none of which they ever turned up for. Attempts to get it collected all failed.
So having stored the stuff all packed up and ready to go for almost 2 years and not being prepared to store it any longer, near the beginning of this year, I printed off one of their free Collect Plus labels and drove the stuff down to a local drop-off point myself to send onto Virgin, which they presumably did.
Today, over two years later, I have just received an email from Virgin, asking for their equipment back!
The drop-off point had issued me with a minuscule receipt about one inch long, which I now can't for the life of me find, dispite searching high and low!
And neither do I have any trace of any email correspondence I had with them, as I'd stupidly deleted it all when I was having an email spring clean!
I can't remember the exact month I returned it either, as my family was going through a serious crisis at the time and I had a lot of other stuff to deal with which obviously took priority.
So the bottom line is that I have no way of proving that I've actually returned the equipment, although I have, and I'd even made sure it was all correctly labelled inside with my reference nos, etc.
I wish I hadn't bothered returning it now.
Please would anyone be able to advise me where I might stand with this? I really don't want to be charged for it after all this!
Should I just ignore this email? (as Virgin did with me for over two years) or tell them I did return it, and hope they believe me?0 -
OP, so that others might benefit, can you please tell us all the solution?0

Apologies for deleting my thread. I had not intended to be rude and did not realise that it would still be visible. I didn't want to risk wasting the time of anyone kind enough to take the trouble to reply as I believed my problem had been resolved....
Well, as it turned out, it had not.
Although I found the original label that I had printed out from Collect Plus' site (which was why I thought it had been resolved) there is no tracking info. available, so in effect I am still unable to prove that I ever returned the equipment.
I did though, find the email correspondence I had with them back in August / September 2012 when we left Virgin, showing how they had broken two arrangements they had made to collect their stuff.
I told them that we were unable to take yet more time off work and that they would now need to arrange a courier to collect.
We kept the equipment until April 2014, by which time we had still heard nothing from Virgin, so we decided to return it via Collect Plus.
I had actually considered that the goods had been abandoned after all that time, and was wondering if there is a 'reasonable' timespan, after which goods *can* be considered abandoned and one can dispose of them? Surely 2 years and 2 months is not a reasonable timespan and we couldn't be expected to store them indefinitely?0 -

What a now lovely post.
I thought you would be in real difficulties, with respect to deleted emails and lost receipts.
Pleased you have found a satisfactory solution.0 -

Sadly I haven't found a satisfactory solution as I can't prove I ever returned the equipment because there is no tracking info available.0 -
Tell them if they want the item back, they have to pay a fee for your incurred storage costs. 2 years and 2 months, say £10 a month...£260? See what they say

That would have been an excellent suggestion, but unfortunately I no longer have the equipment, as I returned it in April of this year. That's my problem, as I have no means of proving I did so.

Just reply, telling them you are surprised they have got in touch as you returned it in April (give the exact date). If they want any more information they'll contact you again.0
