Glow worm Ultracom 30sxi........very little heat to radiators!!

We have just purchased a new property and went to try the central heating a couple of days ago. The boiler is firing up but very little heat is going to the radiators. After leaving it on for about an hour a couple of the radiators were warm, however, the majority were still cold. We have had 2 different plumbers out....the 1st said he thinks it may be the pump......the 2nd has said that he thinks the pipes going from the boiler to the radiators are too small and are only likely to be able to heat 2/3 rads. We have very little knowledge on this so really dont know what to do now......any advice would be greatly appreciated???

Experts will be along shortly but what I would want to know is, what is the boiler doing during that hour. Is it cycling on and off fairly quickly? How old is the boiler/system do you think?

I'm surprised that two plumbers couldn't disgnose the problem. I've not had any experience of airlocks but maybe that's the cause - but then the plumbers would have considered that. Have all the rads been bled of air?
  • The boiler was installed in late 2010, so about 4 years old now. Yes, I have bled all the rads.

We were hoping that the 2nd plumber would agree with the 1st guy who came out, but he seemed certain it wouldnt be the pump, so now we are not quite sure who to believe.

Is it a sealed system, check the pressure if so. If you have a tank in the loft, the smaller one is for the CH make sure it hasn't run dry. Is it a combi or system boiler? If a system boiler it could well be the pump if it's an old one, could be full of muck. Just because boiler is new doesn't mean they changed other system parts

maybe the system needs balanced,,water at every raditor,,bleeding wont work in this situation
  • do the pipes get hot going to the cylinder fairly quickly ?
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

This may be a silly answer, but if you have thermostatic radiator valves (TRV) fitted, perhaps they are not working properly. i.e they are not letting water enter fully, so radiators are only warm. Is there a radiator without a TRV fitted and is this heating up more ?
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
