Thanks Arbrighton, I would love to change to a septic tank but its impossible at our location. Must admit after having not to pay waste water bill it will be about £300-£400 a year more, but worth it for our location.

Hi Daniel, well we are due to have ours emptied next week, we have settled into a 2-month cycle (2000 gallon / 9000 litre, 2 people) and the weather doesn't seem to affect it (gutters empty into separate soakaway).
The company we use sends us a receipt with a breakdown of how much was emptied and from there we figured we were previously having it emptied slightly too frequently (6-7 weeks) so now leave it 2 months. Seems to be working out about right.
Last time we had it emptied it was almost full and this time we have been away for a week so not sure how it is currently faring but no complaints from our house sitter about sewage overflow so I can only assume all is well!
Cleared my credit card debt of £7123.58 in a year using YNAB! Debt free date 04/12/2015.
Enjoying sending hundreds of pounds a month to savings rather than debt repayment!

Thanks Snowscreamer about the same as us then. But I think ours lets a bit in when the water table is high. Cesspool at the bottom of the garden with fields behind rising up. Spoke to neighbor about 100 yards away and he reckons he has his emptied 3 times a year and ours must be at fault. But have since found out that most of his gray water he diverts to the garden. Most reply's agree with our cycle.
