Replacement laptop screen no worky

So I'm hoping one of you clever folks can help me.

I have a Dell 3737 laptop and broke the screen a couple if weeks ago.

I've just got aaround to buying a replacement screen and fitted it.

On switching it on, the screen stays dark, it boots up fun and if you shine a light towards the screen you can see a faint desktop, so iI presume everything is in working order. When plugged in to the tv via hdmi it all shows up fine on the tv.

So what's up with it? Have I fitted it wrong? So Ineed to do something to switch on the backlight? Have I been sent a dodgy screen? I'd it another different part of cable that needs replacing?

Thanks

Screen is fine, it's the LCD inverter that is damaged.
