Why do interviewers say they'll 'let you know either way' and then don't??

Recruitment agents are generally horrible people. Full of liars and hypocrites. They make your average everyday estate agent look like a saint
While this may be true, it's nothing compared to the basket-cases they have to try to place.
You can understand why they become cynical after a while...0 -
When agencies are involved and its a reasonable sized company interviewing you the decision and feedback have to go from the hiring manager to HR to the Agent to you.
It is wrong to automatically assume its the hiring manager that is the break in the chain. I have worked for companies where HR simply dont pass on decisions/ feedback as they've decided the risk of being sued for discrimination is higher than the value to them of providing feedback to the candidate.
Similarly agents are often fairly highly commission based and so given the choice of spending time on the phone with the unsuccessful candidate they'd rather be out trying to drum up more business who may add to their pay cheque.
Obviously sometimes it is the hiring manager too, either they are too busy or they themselves decide that its hard to make the reason for not hiring politically correct etc0 -
It's just like men who end dates with "I'll call you", then don't. It's just saying what they think the other person wants to hear.0

Most recruitment agents wouldn't recognise a good candidate if they jumped out from behind them and bit them on the back of the bum regardless of any basket cases they might deal with.0 -

Yes it's unacceptable behaviour from the recruiter. Now if it was the other way around when candidates being interviewed never turned up, You would get recruiters coming on to this forum spitting out their dummies stating that the candidates were being discourteous and didn't want to work0 -

In this case, the recruiter was honest with me but the interviewer couldn't tell me to my face that I wasn't a good fit! He was all very positive in the interview and said he'd be taking me through to the next stage, then must have changed his mind :-(0 -

So if they told you to your face it wouldnt have been a waste?Yes it's unacceptable behaviour from the recruiter. It could be that the interviewer didnt have the balls to say something more generic but to be honest if someone did bad you'd normally just avoid the question. Of cause it may also be the decision was taken out of the hiring managers hands - their opinion was to take the candidate through to the next round but their boss has selected the person for the role for them or the vacancy has been pulled etc.0 -
I get really upset when employers did not bother to contact me in any form of communication, when I was job hunting.
But for one of my friends she applied for a job and didn't hear anything. Then 2.5 weeks later, she had the day booked off work, she received a phone call. It was the place she had an interview asking her is she still interested in the job as not heard from her. My friend never received the letter as got lost in the post.
Fortunately her current employer let her leave without serving notice.
Now her current employers send successful interviewees the good news both by post and e-mail.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
