Car rental dispute

I desperately need some help and advice to resolve a problem with a car rental.

On the 1/10/2014 I booked a hire car from rentalcars.com for £413 and prepaid for it with my UK Capital One credit card. I was sent a prepaid voucher for rental car supplier Alamo. I have used this website previously.

I arrived on a flight from Cape Town on 15/10/2014. When I handed the voucher over to the car hire provider Alamo I was told I had no insurance and that I would have to pay £19.99 per day for the 32 days of the hire.

Alamo is claiming it’s because the rental voucher says I was coming in from USA. Despite the fact that I put in my flight details and paid with a UK credit card when making the booking. I can’t fathom what indication they could have had that I was coming in from US. I flew in from Cape Town on a British Airways flight and am a British Citizen.

As far as I am concerned I have paid £413.00 for an Alamo hire car. I am not interested in how I made the booking. This is very much their problem and they need to sort it out because I am not paying £640 for insurance that should not be required and because of someone else’s error. This is not my error!

I am quite happy if there is a discrepancy in the rate quoted to pay the difference. I have offered a number of solutions to resolve the problem but neither the booking site nor the rental car supplier seems prepared to work to resolve the matter saying that nothing can be done and pointing the finger at the other company to resolve.

Neither company can absolve themselves of liability for this and I have lodged a dispute with my credit card company as I have not been provided with the product I wanted and the service when trying to work with the companies to resolve matters has been appalling.

Can anyone give any other advise on how to resolve the matter. This has ruined my holiday and I am holding them entirely responsible for that. I am distraught and upset as I simply do not have the £640 to pay for the insurance. This is not what I wanted and certainly is not what I thought I had booked.
