miss sold Portfolio Bond

I was miss sold a Portfolio Bond in 1999. I have been told by Aviva that I am too late to get any compensation. Can anyone else share information please.

    When did the bond mature?

If you wished to complain about something, then you would have to do so either within (a) 6 years of the sale, or (b) 3 years from when you realised there was a problem. So I would have thought that three years from maturity would be the cut-off point.

The above is broadly correct. Think this might have been better posted on the savings & investments board?

    How was it mis-sold?

The Aviva portfolio bond was one the cheapest investment bonds on the market and had a good fund range available.

You have 6 years from sale or 3 years from being reasonably aware of the issue. That 3 year bit has to have a trigger event. This could be surrender.

  • Ultimately it is for FOS to decide if it is too late - so you can still ask FOS to look at it.

However, if it agrees that it is too late it will not look at the merits of the complaint.
