Money Moral Dilemma: Is it OK to use other people's leftover parking time?

I've done this but usually pick my targets carefully, hospital car parks are a rip off and the last thing someone thinks about when going to A&E as walking wounded or with a relative is whether they have change for the machine.
If I've got some time left on a ticket I'll gladly pass it on especially to people taking their kids in.
I tend to avoid those with big flash cars though, hospital directors tend to get reserved spaces so don't need it0 -
My hospital charges £2 for 4 hours, even in the disabled spaces, so I always put my ticket with time left on the machine to help someone out. I've been given tickets there too- 'pay it forward' I say...0

Absolutely take it, and give some back too. Time has been paid for.
Always been inspired by a chap in a North East city centre (I think it was Newcastle), where there was a coin slot machine for each parking space. Traffic warden was about to issue a ticket, and this passer-by just put in some money, saving the vehicle owner the ticket.
I've since done the same in a car park near me where I met the same warden each day - spent one afternoon walking up and down with a couple of tickets and slotting them on windscreen of cars that would have got a ticket with a friend. Only cost a few quid, but those traffic wardens irk me. You could ask if that is morally wrong as the council were only getting £1 instead of £60 or whatever the fine is? Traffic warden certainly thought it was wrong!0 -
Take the ticket, most car parks are overpriced anyway. Think of all the extra revenue these car parks get from people with time left on their tickets when they leave.
I have taken tickets myself and passed on my own.
Just make sure there is no registration number printed on the ticketThoughts:

Morally yes even if T&Cs forbid it.
The space has been paid for so why not? The only time I wouldnt is when the reg no is shown on the ticket.0 -
If I've still got time left on my ticket and there's no one around, I stick it on the pay machine. Why not??0
-
Absolutely. It's been paid for and where's the harm in brightening someone's day?0

OK can we open it up, I have both passed on and used tickets with time left on in the past and will no doubt do in the future.
However lets look at it from another angle. If you owned a restaurant and someone came in for a meal, and as they did someone left after eating only half their steak and chips, would you find it acceptable for the person coming in to sit and eat the food left without making a purchase? If you owned a pub would it be OK for someone to come in and drink up all the left over slops without buying a drink? If you ran a bus would it be OK for someone to pass a ticket as they got off to someone getting on?
After all the food, beer and ticket have all been paid for!
Just asking!0 -
I frequently hand over my ticket if there is lots of time left on it. I've paid for that space for that time, it's up to me how it's used. Thankfully no car parks round here ask for your numberplate.
Always give my daily bus ticket away when I've finished with it if I can too. Buses are ridiculously expensive round here, so have to get something the rip-off bus companyZebras rock0 -
I often do this - both give tickets with time left and accept them from other people. It's a lovely thing to do.
Although saying that, there was a discussion on Facebook recently about someone who had passed their ticket on in Stratford upon Avon, the unfortunate recipient received a fine. I think the passing on of the ticket had been caught on camera and the car park operator took action. So be careful! X0
