Can you block access to MSN Messenger?

Hi Folks,
Sorry if this has been asked before but what I'm looking for is something that can block access to internet messenger services like MSN. I've tried several of the suggestions scattered around the internet but none have been particularly successful. Most seem to assume that teenagers have limited abilities to circumvent simple security measures, which is far from the case in my experience!

Do you have a router? If so, there should be something on there which will block this type of traffic. Can I help?0

Yes, I'm using a router but apparently this type of software can detect blocked ports and then select an different one, e.g. port 80 (which is always open).0

Do you want invisible software, or software thats visible but can no way be overridden!
If the latter, then CyberPatrol is a rather secure and good piece of software![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Another effective way is to remove msn from the pc, and then edit your hosts file to block ALL sites with msn in the URL.
This way the software can't be re-downloaded

When I was young, my parents had a really hi-tech way of stopping me looking at stuff...they said "don't look at X..."...if I looked at X, they banned me from the PC for a month...worked well...0

Best solution all round, the ONLY alternative is for any internet connected pc to be situated in a family room. But I do agree with the banning punishment. It also is an invaluable lesson in "consequences" and "responsibility for own actions". No child NEEDS a pc (about half my AS computing lessons were nowhere near a pc, same goes for my software engineering lectures!), it is only a bonus so there's no real justification in not banning pc use for punishment."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
