Amex Green card declined problem

I've had this card for around a month and a half now and suddenly out of nowhere when I tried to use it, it got declined. Called Amex customer services they said my account is under security review and I have to wait until people call me to find out what to do next until I can use my card again. Anyone ever had this problem?

  • Not personally but it's happened to others with various cards. You'll just have to be patient.
Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??
    :coffee:
  • Yup, happened after I bought some software online and the merchant ID came up as a company involved in music production in Germany. For some reason it was some time after the transaction that they actually blocked it. Took a little while to work out that it was the software purchase as it had nothing to do with music but some googling showed that actually music software is their main activities and what I had bought was a just a side project for them.

The difference for me was that as soon as the card was blocked the call centre were willing/ able to put me through to security to deal with the issue.

The real question from me is, why would you want to go for a green card, not much benefit that I saw...?

I concur. The PRG charge card is fee free for the 1st year (£125 thereafter) and has an introductory bonus of 20,000 MRP (25k if referred) if you spend £2K in the first three months.

You would have been far better off trying for the gold charge card and then downgrading (or cancelling after transferring/spending your points) after year one to avoid the £125 fee.

You can pay a small fee, £15 I think, for the card to earn MR points

Perhaps the OP had already had the bonus and free year and switched to green to continue earning MR?
