Windows...

We live in a converted mill grade II listed. When we moved in we had window problems, some leak when it rains, the double glazing doesn't work as double glazing anymore, they act as a hole in the wall rather than a window. They are about 12 years old & are made of softwood, with 16 small panels of glass in them to replicate old sash style windows. We stupidly didn't get a decent survey done when buying our house we thought the mgnt comp would look after the windows & things like. They look after the painting of them on the outside but not the actual window. We have looked into replacing them with hardwood they are beyond repair now, after having 5 joiners come we only received a quote back from 1 who quoted us £2500 to replace just 2 of the worst ones (we have 7 altogether). Does anybody think that this would be about right?. Or does anybody know of anything where you can get help with this kind of thing? Many thanks.

If the existing windows are of modern softwood, and are 12 years old and rotted, that's about par for the course. Sorry.
There is soft wood and there is soft wood, if that makes sense?

They are going to have to be joiners made. There are many places in the UK that can do that at reasonable cost, you need to ascertain from your local auth what is the modern standard equivalent that you can install, then go with the best timber option, ;), hope that helps a little :)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
