E.On refunded us twice
Options
Hi.
We were in credit with E.On when we moved house and requested that the balance be returned to us. What actually happened was that they took the next month's direct debit as usual and thus owed us even more. I rang up to complain and was told that the payment had been authorised and would be returned to us within 5days, which it happily was.
Spring forward a week and another refund of the same amount appears in our account! A rare case of a company making a mistake in returning money!
Now, I KNOW that I should ring E.On and arrange for it to be returned (indeed, it's sitting in a savings account on its own waiting for that to happen) HOWEVER, I just wondered whether there was any kind of statute-of-limitations style time limit on when the company has to discover and ask for the money to be returned?
It's not a small sum, so would be welcome, and it seems like a fair payment for the many hours I've spent on hold with them.hoho.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

I believe they have up to 6 years to reclaim the money. You'd be best off sending them a letter and asking how best to have it officially returned.0
