Ciampino Airport to Rome

Hi all
I am heading to Rome this weekend for a short break, flying in to Ciampino. I would normally get a taxi to the hotel, but the internet is awash with stories of people being ripped off. Does anyone have any recent experiences of travelling to the city from Ciampino?
Our hotel is near the Vatican, so I would rather get a taxi direct than a bus to Termini and walk or get a taxi from there - but not if I'm going to get bent over by a taxi driver

Why not prebook a taxi transfer? Then the price is fixed.0

As long as your destination is in the area defined as the centre of Rome, within the walls, then its a fixed €30 fee for taxis, see page 2 of http://www.comune.roma.it/PCR/resources/cms/documents/tariffario_taxi_luglio_2012.pdf
Some taxis are known to try and con people by saying its to the walls rather than within or argue that a destination isnt within the walls etc. Best to "confirm" its the flat €30 before pulling away.0
