  • Hi JHH, we meal plan in a similar fashion and it saves me a small fortune. Virtually no waste and I use different books per menu planning session, meaning lots of variation.

I am thinking of investing in head 'lamps' for the Tilly family when dog walking at night :)

Hi Tilly, phew! Glad it's not just me that goes to extreme lengths :rotfl:! But agreed, it provides lots of variation and hardly any waste :j

I would definitely recommend! You may feel a little silly at first - but definitely worth it :D

There you go :). It's just one of the standard ones under 'More'.

Sounds like a productive spell all round, and good result on the heating :T.

I'll be starting proper meal planning in the new year.

At the moment, my meal plan is in my head, for the next 4 - 5 days. So it's interesting to read how you go about making your plan.

Mine will be a bit more low tech, as it'll be done in a diary, but I hope to plan 2-3 weeks in advance, and have a note of the location of the recipe or whether the meal is already in the freezer. Then we'll have a weekly shop, and I was going to have to get the recipe books out to do the shopping list. But, having read how you do it, I can make a note of the things I'll need to buy in the diary, and refer to that when I do my list

I've also been doing the surveys this year. It's either feast of famine with the surveys, and, rather annoyingly the feast days are always days when I haven't got much time to spend completing them! I'll probably end up with three, possibly four sites that I'll keep using

Glad all is well with you

I do find the meal planning really does help and can't recommend enough (I'm sure High tech or low tech won't make any diff to the outcome )

It's a definite feast atm for me - and I'm just not that hungry, with all the choice :p

    • NSD
    • 3 x surveys completed
    • £1.63 TT

    The Not So Good
    • Budget is looking as tight as some of my dresses, which no longer fit, for this month!
    • DH has bought a 'sound bar' (I talked him out of this several weeks ago) - however he's spent 3 x less than he initially planned + he's bought it out of his own money (allowance :rotfl:) so I can't really say much about it
    • All day spent in email hell (first day back after 4 wks)

    Blessings & Good Stuff :A :T
    • HM shepherd's Pie, York Pud, sweet corn and braised red Cabbage for dinner. Two portions left for this wk. Not bad considering it was supposed to be for two servings! :T
    • HM Pineapple upside cake for dessert (half donated to next door in the hope of us both not becoming rotund!)
    • The heating is working a treat now - hoorah :j We have the downstairs on for an hour in a morn & at night and now the house is keeping the heat retained as it's the same temp nearly all day (minus 0.5 a degree). Plus the hour it comes on (downstairs anyway) if it gets up to temp it switches off, so it's not always on for that long!
    • First day at work! Yay for being back to normality :D (even if that does mean work!)

    This weeks 'to do' list:

    1. List dresses on FleaBay - Dresses
    2. Clean the hounds teeth
    3. Flea/Worm Hounds
    4. Wrap Presents/Write Cards
    5. Make Fudge (possibly next Week)
    6. Check if WH Smith voucher is still Valid

There's a lot to be said for normality, even if you spent the first day in an email hell!

As I only work two days a week, I have a mini hell each Thursday, but I find that most of the emails can be deleted without even reading.

But at least it's better than the olden days when all communications were by memo. The amount of paper was unreal!:rotfl:

I love pineapple upside down cake too. It's easy to make, but looks impressive, and tastes good too!

    MFW Goodness :money:
    • 50p TT (found in the bottom of the wash basket :D)
    • 3 x surveys completed (screend out of double that though!)
    • NSD today

    The Not So Good
    • Spendy day Tuesday
    £29.xx spent at Co-op
£22 spent at the fish market (Tuesday only!) in the village. I'm so happy to have discovered it, as we used to go to the fishmonger in town (town hall) but they closed some years ago and ever since have had to make a long trip to a big fish market About 20 miles away, where we stocked up! I realise I could have got it from the supermarket, but I really do like supporting local business and it's always fresher!
    • Builder/Project chaps came round to discuss the start of the garage building plan and we have a start date, 2nd March(now DH would say this needs to go in the 'good stuff' section - but as I don't want the garage in the first place + it's going to cost 10's of thousands, it's going in my 'not so good' pile!)
    • We found out the field at the back of our house is up for sale. It's currently agricultural land but we are very concerned that someone will buy and try to obtain planning to build on it!!
I spoke to the council and also the conservation and they said whilst the village we are in is a conservation area, the field is adjacent to conservation area. And whilst it's unlikely they would be granted permission with the ever changing directive from the government, coupled with the housing shortage the council are being asked to consider all applications very carefully. So in a nut shell he said a few years + ago - it would have been an almost certain 'no' to planning perm being granted, these days altho it's still very likely to be a 'no' there much more of a possibility it would go through…..
Anyhow - we are thinking of buying - going halves with our neighbours, much more discussion needs to be had (altho I have already spoken to our solicitors) to iron things out - but sealed bids to be submitted by 30th Jan!! The guide price is £25-35k for 1.8 acres of land, it's on a slope and there is no access (currently) for cars, a very small access route off an unadopted road that you can use to walk thro or potter up with a horse. Not an issue for us though, as we would leave as is….Anyhow, buying a field is definitel NOT in my MF plans!!

    Blessings & Good Stuff :A :T

    • Cuppa with the girls Tue eve
    • Email hell is now over! 7 working days and counting till annual leave :p
    • DF$ man has been out to replace the top of our footstool (it still had the branding mark on the leather from the cow :rotfl:) and also fixed some stitching that had come loose
    • Car Tax renewed (not due till Jan 1st) but thought I may as well sort whilst I think about it!
    • Glass of Vino at the neighbours tonight - very much needed after news of the field :(
