Recommend a good site to build a model portfolio?

My pension provider site is garbage, the only way I have of looking at the various asset classes of the funds I am invested in is to manually open each fund prospectus and transfer them to a spreadsheet. They only update the funds totals at the end of each business day and transferring between funds is an over-complicated method of allocating percentages to be invested in for each fund. Annoyingly, I believe this is one of the biggest providers in the market.

I'd move it but I can't as it's where my company pension is paid into and there is no way to move my company payments to another provider as this is their provider of choice.

So, what I'd like to do is populate a tracker that takes 'decent' information from my choice of funds, updates totals automatically and allows me to look at the various mix of asset classes I'm in to do some proper analysis so I don't have to do it all by hand and by spreadsheet. I'll still have to manually input the data initially but after that it would be only any changes I'd make which hopefully wouldn't be too often.

Any recommendations, ideally free if possible :)

You should be able to do with using the x-o fantasy portfolio tool. You input the buy in price manually so you can set it to whatever you like (i.e it does not have to be the price it is at when you create the portfolio).

It is free to do this so if it does not work out then there is no harm done!

  • Just to clarify, regardless of where you go, funds only deal daily - some smaller ones deal LESS frequently than daily, and they only have a daily valuation point.

My pension is self-invested - I have a standing order that pays the same amount in each month. When I then allocate the money to funds, it's not until at least the next day that the money is automatically dealt into the funds.
